LIGNA focused on three main themes: CONNECTIVITY, SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION and ENGINEERED WOOD. These topics are not only of interest to the industry, but also represent a message of hope for a world in need of sustainable development. Exhibitors showed their commitment in this direction, with solutions ranging from reforestation to finished products, demonstrating that wood is a renewable resource and a very important building material. The event took place in an area of over 114,000 square metres, including halls and outdoor areas.

ICRO actively participated in the events at its partners’ stands;

• Monday 26 May at SCM Group’s Superfici, where we demonstrated the application of the UVVE810100 (smooth) roller topcoat with excimer UV tunnel drying, a product that guarantees high resistance, super matt effect and soft touch, no VOC emissions, no waste and easy to use.

• On Tuesday, 27 May, we went to Giardina Group, where we presented the WTVE550010A water-based topcoat in two colours (with Wagner automatic colour change). Ease of use, speed of drying, versatility and high performance characterise this product.

• Also on Tuesday 27 May, we were invited to Cefla’s speaker corner, where our Managing Director and CEO, Ing. Francesco Moltrasio, presented ICRO’s new sustainable solutions in response to upcoming regulatory changes. Isocyanate- and formaldehyde-free acrylics, single-component finishes (R2 Ikea IOS 066 compliant), LED lamps replacing mercury lamps, and UV-curing products with Mercury-free UV lamps.

• Wednesday 28 May at Makor Group, illustrating the application of the UV N-EXC (nitrogen-free excimer) pigmented spray USWV807200 waterborne topcoat. A revolutionary technology with performance close to excimer with nitrogen, even lower gloss at 60°, but lower operating and investment costs.

• Panels painted with ICRO products using inert calander technology were on display throughout the week in Barberan, with both mirror-effect gloss and intense matt finishes with high surface hardness.

The 2025 edition, inaugurated against a backdrop of strong turbulence in the markets, recorded an attendance of 302,548.

Between sustainability, technology and aesthetic refinement, this year’s proposals outline a clear path towards an increasingly conscious and innovative design.

One of the most pronounced innovations at Salone 2025 was the rediscovery of natural materials. Raw wood, stone, cork, hemp and terracotta once again took centre stage, not only for their aesthetic qualities, but also for the tactile and emotional sensations they evoke.

Another colour evolution that characterised the 2025 edition is the use of neutral, soothing tones.

The palettes, dominated by sand, beige, cream and ivory, were enriched with earthy accents such as rust, ochre and sage green. Predominant materials include marble and frosted glass, while matt finishes and tactile surfaces confirm the trend towards a more sensual and welcoming aesthetic.

In addition, there has been a growing interest in dark woods, low opacity and brushed and processed materials, while lacquered colours tend to remain in the more delicate shades.

Formaldehyde is recognised for its toxic properties and its ability to pollute the air we breathe. For the past decade, however, ICRO has chosen to differentiate itself on the market, developing products that not only comply with legal limits, but also stand as a conscious choice for a healthier environment. ICROWOOD products are completely formaldehyde-free thanks to the absence of resins and additives containing this compound. In addition, their formaldehyde content remains below the thresholds of Annex VI of the CLP Regulation: B, D.

The product range offered by ICRO has certifications such as; A+, M1, Green Guard and IMOMED, which attest to the safety and sustainability of the coatings and enamels. This positioning allows the company to guarantee a high standard of protection for human health and the environment, effectively helping to reduce the impact of VOCs in interior spaces.

In addition, ICRO is prepared for the new regulations that will come into force as of 6 August 2026, as stipulated in Regulation 2023/1464/EU. The most important provisions concern the concentration of formaldehyde, establishing a limit of 0.062 mg/m³ for furniture and wood-based articles and 0.080 mg/m³ for articles other than furniture and wood-based articles. ICRO’s proactive approach, consolidated over the years, allows it to be fully compliant with these future directives, while continuing to guarantee safe, high quality products.

More than 9,000 visiting companies arrived from 113 countries, numbers that continue to grow, year after year Sicam confirms itself as the expo of accessories and semi-finished products par excellence in the furniture industry.

ICRO participated by bringing color and sustainability, both at the production level and in terms of brand actions, so much so that it wanted to highlight the actions the group has taken throughout the year;

• Promoting the adoption of renewable energy sources, thanks to the installation of major solar and photovoltaic systems at the Bergamo and Cinto Caomaggiore sites. These systems are contributing to the production of clean energy, reducing the environmental impact by leading the company toward increasingly sustainable production.

• Planting 700 Paulownia trees. The choice of Paulownia its exceptional environmental characteristics; CO₂ absorption, air purification, absorption of heavy metals, rapid growth finally it produces honey and helps pollination.

• Providing low-emission products for furniture, kitchens and floors. ICRO’s new range of low-emission paints has been formulated to meet the needs of even public and contract projects where attention to emissions plays an increasingly important role.

• Calculate carbon dioxide emissions for each product, concerning furniture and kitchen paint products. Interested results that allow ICRO, when formulating a product, to consider not only performance and cost but also environmental impact.

The first edition of Beauty to Business Summit, an event organized by Promoberg and dedicated to the cosmetics industry, in the heart of the Beauty Valley, also ended successfully on Thursday, Oct. 17, attracting more than 2,000 industry professionals. 

The debut in Bergamo stems from the desire to enhance an area that, together with MIlano, Cremona, Monza and Pavia, is universally recognized as “the Italian cosmetic Valley”, because it is in that context that the largest industrial production of cosmetics is concentrated. 

The main sectors that animated the fair were: suppliers of raw materials and ingredients, personal care products, packaging solutions, machinery, equipment and services. 

ICRO participated with its COSMETIC division along with partner Falcolor and 50 other exhibitors, bringing a complete range dedicated to packaging, available in a variety of colors and innovative effects.

This past month, ICRO has been in the spotlight for two fine initiatives. The first one concerns the mother city, Bergamo, where ICRO is a member of Bergamo Scienza, an association attentive to the development of the scientific-technological knowledge of the youngest, future professionals and innovators.

From 27 September to 13 October, the 22nd edition of Bergamo Science 2024 began.

Bergamo Science Centre is open all year round and is a reference point for initiatives on the theme of science and a meeting place for young people, associations and public bodies.

The other initiative involves the Veneto branch in Cinto Caomaggiore.

The initiative, initially born out of the workers’ desire to implement “solidarity holidays” in support of colleagues in difficulty, took more and more shape until it became a true solidarity activity capable of looking beyond the company walls.

The company donated two hours per year for each worker, in addition each employee could choose to donate part of their holiday instead of enjoying it.

In total, ICRO donated approximately EUR 6,000 to the Cooperativa Sociale Gabbiano Jonathan – il Pino di Fossalta di Portogruaro (chosen by the employees), which provides assistance and support to disadvantaged and disabled people.

“For 10 days we never crossed paths with anyone else, lost in our paddling on the rivers, the first few days we even saw these big animals, bears and moose, which looked almost surreal in person! They popped up on the shore as we passed… or all the eagles, quite a few in fact, that we passed while paddling over our heads, and finally the beavers and the lotus dens scattered all along the way. Photos and words don’t hold up to the emotion they gave us.”

A journey full of emotions and a lot of hard work, in the end Lola also brought home this feat, which ended successfully… for us at ICRO she is a continuous source of inspiration!

Indeed, Lola proved once again that the will to achieve a goal overcomes all the difficulties of an expedition such as the one to the Yukon, but also of life.

On our “journey towards sustainability”, we encounter very minor obstacles every day in the development of innovative products that aim to improve living conditions on the planet (“better life with innovation” is our slogan).

Places like those in the pictures of the venture with the kayaks also remind us of the value of our surroundings.

g_ink, a water-based paint system created in partnership with Alisea Società Benefit.

Alisea, through an engineering process that improves its characteristics, transforms graphite – recovered from the industrial processes of Hi-Tech companies and destined for disposal – into Upgraded Recycled Graphite. From this ingredient, ICRO has developed g_ink: an innovative formulation capable of drastically reducing environmental impact and increasing product performance.

ICRO’s sustainability “journey” continues:

• In 2022, it was the first Italian company in the industry to publish its Carbon Footprint. ICRO has chosen the EN ISO 14040 (LCA) reference standard EN ISO 14067:2018 (Systematic approach), which indicates how to calculate the resulting Carbon Footprint for each product according to different parameters, certifying with CERTIQUALITY. Measurements that allow ICRO during product formulation to consider not only performance and cost but also environmental impact.

• In 2023, the company invested in the plant in Cinto Caomaggiore, in the province of Venice, where it installed a photovoltaic system (already present at the Bergamo site) that allows considerable autonomy in terms of electricity.

• Also in 2023, the ICRO laboratory developed more than a hundred new formulations of water-based or UV-curing coatings that meet the ‘carbon footprint’, CFP, criteria already appreciated by many customers.

• In 2024, just last month, 700 Paulownia trees were planted close to the Veneta headquarters (among the 2.5 hectares of land owned by the group), a plant characterised by its remarkable CO2 absorption and rapid growth. The resulting wood has unique characteristics of lightness and durability.

Concern for the environment and the ecosystem are central to the ICRO Group’s operating system, which is committed to sustainable practices throughout its production process, adopting responsible resource management policies aimed at minimising the emission of harmful substances. It is precisely emissions and respect for air quality that are among the main issues at the heart of the group, which is committed to the constant reduction of solvents and increasingly active in the development of high-solids paint products.

Was born the desire to contribute in a stronger and more incisive way, to bring a concrete sign in our beloved territory, for us and for future generations. The ambitious project takes shape and is ready to materialise at the ICRO headquarters in Cinto Caomaggiore, right in Veneto, the heart of ‘furniture’ production. Right here, among the 2.5 hectares of land owned by the group, where about 700 Paulownia trees were planted in May, in collaboration with partner Ideal Verde.

The choice of Paulownia was dictated by its exceptional environmental characteristics. The Paulownia tree, also known as the ‘Princess Tree’ or ‘Emperor’s Tree’, is a plant with many distinctive characteristics that make it one of the most interesting choices for environmental redevelopment and promotion:

1. CO2 absorption: known for its ability to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide from the air during the photosynthesis process. This makes it an ideal choice for reforestation and climate change mitigation projects.
2. Air purification: in addition to absorbing large amounts of CO2, Paulownia can purify the air, filtering noxious substances and contributing to the reduction of air pollution.
3. Absorption of heavy metals: studies have shown that Paulownia is able to absorb heavy metals from the soil, contributing to the remediation of contaminated soils.
4. Rapid growth: Paulownia is famous for its extraordinary ability to grow rapidly. Under optimal conditions, it can reach a height of 5/6 metres in just one year, making it one of the fastest growing plants in the world.
5. Produces honey and helps pollination: Paulownia’s leaves produce a sugar-rich nectar that attracts pollinating insects, making it a potential source of honey and a valuable ally for bee proliferation.

ICRO’s commitment to environmental sustainability is manifested throughout the production chain and in the group’s operational choices; in fact, the company has adopted an ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) strategy.

In recent years, the company has obtained important certifications such as Ecovadis and Green Guard, and for several decades has been one of the pioneers in Italy to invest in the production of increasingly sustainable paints. As early as the 1990s, the group manifested this vocation with the Vernice Sì programme, with the development of the first high-solids UV-drying paints and the first water-based coating systems, up to the latest technologies used in the development of Bio paints, high-performance paint products with a high level of organic compounds.

Today, the ICRO group has the distinction of being the first Italian company to develop a Carbon Footprint calculation method for paints for furniture, kitchens and automotive interiors.

Lola is a lover of various sports. In 2015, she was the victim of an accident that caused her to suffer a complete spinal cord injury, paralysing her from the torso down. The serious accident did not stop Lola. Instead of giving up, she faced her new reality with courage and resolve, continuing to practice various disciplines with even more determination and motivation. Her strength of will led her to climb important summits and participate in numerous exploits.

Only a year and a half after the accident, Lola, with only the help of her own arms and her climbing partners, climbed the “Zodiac”, the wall par excellence “el capitan” in Yosemite Valley, California (USA). At an altitude of 2,307 metres with a vertical wall of about 1,000 metres.

Her last venture was a few months ago, Lola crossed southern Patagonia with her handbike, from El Chaltén to Ushuaia, a journey of around 1,300 km through magical but impervious lands: “I realised that a journey that may seem very difficult for a disabled person is actually doable. It takes willpower, planning and a bit of luck”.

These are just two examples of the many challenges and trainings that Lola faces on a daily basis. A life lived to the full, always uphill and always higher!

“I realised that disability does not stop me from pursuing my dreams. Now a new adventure is in the pipeline: ‘A canoe trip to the Yukon territory in Canada”.

On 20 May, Lola, with her strength and tenacity, will take us by kayak to the Yukon, here is her itinerary:

• DAY 1 Whitehorse – Johnson’s Crossing: Travel by jeep from the town of Whitehorse to Johnson’s Crossing, 136 km to the southeast. Near this small town is the only approach point of the Alaska Highway with the Teslin River.

• DAY 2 Johnson’s Crossing – 100 Mile Landing: Depart Teslin Lake to enter the Teslin River. about 40 km.

• DAY 3 10: 100 Mile Landing – Boswell River: From 100 Mile Landing to Boswell River run 55 km into the wild moors of the Great North.

• DAY 4 Boswell River – Masons Landing: the slow flow of the waters uncovers remnants of the gold rush and old ‘cabins’ (small wooden houses) used on the pilgrimage to the town of Dawson, or by the intrepid trappers who made their income from selling skins, 64 km.

• DAY 5 Masons Landing – Hootalinqua: After 27 km from Masons Landing we arrive at Hootalinqua, the confluence of the Teslin River and the Yukon River. Hootalinqua in its Indian meaning means meeting of two rivers. This place was of particular importance for the stopovers of small boats that yielded goods to larger boats that continued to Dawson, 27 km.

• DAY 6 Hootalinqua – Big Salmon: Tat’ len Heena, an Indian name that translated means Big Salmon, a small village founded by the first miners who entered the Yukon Valley in 1881. The place was previously an Indian fishing village. In 1898 a steamboat refuelling station for wood fuel was built by the Northwest Mounted Police, with an advanced telegraph station, 56 km.

• DAY 7 Big Salmon – Little Salmon – Dawson City: Little Salmon is believed to be the oldest permanent Indian settlement in the upper Yukon River. In early native maps referring to trails and villages we find this place marked as Gluk Sae. The village is thought to have originally been located on the opposite bank of the Little Salmon River and was later moved due to an epidemic that wiped out its entire population in 1917, 60 km.

• DAY 8 Dawson City: it was known as ‘the Paris of the North’, and was inhabited by 38,000 people; today, however, fewer than 1,000 people call this town home, and among them are still those who seek their fortune in the bowels of the earth. The city was built at the confluence of the Yukon and Klondike rivers during the 1896 gold rush. Arctic Circle only 240 km away.

This journey is a valuable lesson, yet another demonstration of how important it is to pursue a goal with tenacity and commitment, not to be discouraged, let alone stop in the face of difficulties. Eleonora has shown extraordinary resilience and determination in overcoming challenges, an extraordinary example for everyone: a clear and strong message in which the ICRO group firmly believes.

In addition to the immense esteem for Eleonora, it is important for ICRO to share and make this message tangible by supporting Lola in her wonderful adventure with Italgen.
